The players and teams played strong. The competition was great. We had one team competing for a championship and a chance to move on to Canada. Just a great weekend of hockey for the Renegades!

    2010-2011 Tournaments (PointStreak)

Just a quick not regarding the blog. Tournaments and Non-League games in Colorado are tracked using Pointstreak. By scrolling down the page look for the the heading in the right hand column called 2010-2011 Tournaments (PointStreak). Pointstreak links to tournaments are listed by team. The links will take you to the PointStreak page of the team and the corresponding tournament.

Also of note are PointStreak Links in the same area of this page for Non-League games. As games are played and scored through PointStreak, the pages are automatically updated.

In the event that a team plays in a tournament out of state that uses PointStreak, we will attempt to add the links as they become available.

Hopefully, we won't miss one. If you know of a PointStreak link and don't see it here, just drop an email to msyhrenegades@gmail.com and we will follow up on it as soon as we can.

The Renegades Looking for Old Gear

We are very proud to announce our second season of the MSYH Hockey Gear Donation Program. Everyone knows hockey is expensive and the only way many families can get started is to find used or donated hockey equipment. Last season MSYH outfitted nine players. These players were able to start playing hockey with bags and equipment.

This year our goal is to outfit twenty players. The goal is to help twenty players start playing hockey with us at the 8 and under group. We are asking for gear donations to start the younger players skating for our Mite program. If you have small size pants – gloves – helmets – shoulder pads – skates – elbow pads – shin pads – old bags of any size – old goalie gear – small jerseys – sticks – please donate them.

This equipment will become part of the recycle gear program at MSYH and will be cleaned, inventoried and recycled annually to get players on the ice and playing within our program.

If you have old gear that is in good shape and can be used for starting kids in hockey contact Larry MacDonald at: Renegadespresident@comcast.net.

As discussed with the Mountain States Youth Hockey Association (MSYHA) representatives that attended the Colorado Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) Executive Committee meeting on August 31, 2010; MSYHA is in good standing with CAHA.

As a member in good standing, the CAHA Executive Committee continues to support MSYHA as an association playing within the Tier II (AA) and Recreational levels within the state of Colorado.

    The 2010-2011 Renegades Season

The 2010 – 2011 Season brings excitement and opportunity to the Mountain States Youth Hockey Association. MSYHA is dedicated to growing hockey players for Colorado and as an independent association. We will be playing more games in the season ahead than prior years. All AA Teams will compete at the State CAHA tournament. AA Teams must play 20 games against AA teams. Players must play in a minimum of 10 of those 20 games to be eligible for state tournaments. AA Teams will have two trips outside the state of Colorado in the 2010 – 2011 season. A through C Level Teams will have 1 to 2 trips outside the state into Wyoming and New Mexico only.

The Board of Directors, Tim Knox and Roger Gill have met with various associations within Colorado and we have commitment from over 9 associations that we are working closely with to schedule games. We will not know this schedule until they have fulfilled their league scheduling in September. We will then work with them for scheduling additional games. We are partnered with Evolution Hockey out of Denver for Showcase weekends where we will be playing teams from Minnesota, Chicago, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas and other states in Denver, Colorado. Showcase weekends are very eventful for the parents and players to participate in. The Colorado Junior Eagles from Denver (a separate organization from the Northern Colorado Junior Eagles) have committed to playing us various times throughout the season ahead at all levels. Tim is also working with teams out of Minnesota, North and South Dakota, New Mexico and Wyoming to play us and hold showcase weekend at our own rink. We will also host tournaments at the A through C levels at our home rink in the 2010-2011 season.

You may make a payment in full for the season ahead or you may use the payment schedule posted on our website www.mountainstateshockey.com for your annual player dues. We will have sponsorship opportunities available for each player to assist in paying down their individual fees through sponsorship fundraising. We will also have our annual fundraiser and raffle for players to participate in to assist in paying down their fees. You may start making payments immediately and once your son/daughter has been assigned a team level we will contact you with actual fees owed for your player in the season ahead. If you have any questions on the above information please contact our board immediately.

Mountain States Renegades: A Hockey Program by Hockey People

Tim Knox (left) and Roger Gill (right) on the bench.
Mountain States Youth Hockey understands that it is critical to let the hockey people run the hockey program. Our Director of Hockey, Tim Knox and Roger Gill, Assistant Director of Hockey are dedicated to providing the best possible coaches for our players. Both Tim and Roger bring a vast experience of hockey to the organization. Both have played and coached along side some of the greats in the game. That kind of experience is hard to find. Tim’s coaching philosophy provides the blueprint for the success of our hockey players and coaches. Our simple rule is to let Tim run the program and let the coaches, coach.

We have a strong dedicated group of volunteers running the day to day operations of the association that understand this philosophy. They are one of the cornerstones of our success. With Tim Knox's knowledge of the game, array of nationwide contacts, and ability to communicate his vision of the game, the Mountain States Renegades will continue to provide the Ultimate Hockey Experience.

Mountain States Renegades Hockey: A Little History...

On the pond where it all began with some of the original Renegades
Mountain States Youth Hockey as we know it today was born on a pond out behind a home in Northern Colorado. At that time, Pond Hockey was a simple gathering of sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers and maybe a dog or two on a frozen pond with hockey sticks, pucks and skates and the desire to have fun playing hockey. Leave behind the issues that burden most organizations that involve kids and sports. Just play for fun and experience what makes hockey such a great sport. From those mornings and afternoons on the pond came a Spring/Summer Select Program in 2001-2002. The goal at that time was to provide the players with a competitive hockey experience at times when the typical hockey season in Northern Colorado took a break. During these breaks, kids still wanted to play, coaches still wanted to coach and the parents hoped someone would make it happen. Over the years our teams played in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Iowa, New Mexico, Texas and Canada. Along the way and through our travels, we established relationships with hockey programs, coaches, parents and players that were interested in Renegades Hockey. Many joined the program and participated on our teams during the Spring/Summer Select seasons. Parents and players experienced a new level of hockey. The players were able to take their game to the next level. More and more people requested that we offer the program throughout the entire year. Mountain States Youth Hockey Association became a reality. The Renegades Selects Program continues to operate throughout the Spring and Summer by offering camps and travel tournaments.

In Salt Lake City, UT in the first season as an Independant.
In the fall of 2004, Mountain States Youth Hockey Association became recognized by USA HOCKEY and CAHA as an Independent Association, allowing us to compete in USA HOCKEY sanctioned events. In January 2005, we received complete Organizational Status. On June 30, 2005, Mountain States Youth Hockey was approved to play in the CDYHL. Our winter seasons had teams playing primarily in Colorado for CCYHL (Tier II or AA) and the CDYHL (Levels A & B) league play with the possibility of an occasional tournament outside the state.

Throughout this time the Renegades have won a five state championships since the 2006-2007 season. This kind of success has never been achieved by any organization in Northern Colorado since organized youth hockey has been in existence, let alone in four seasons. The Renegades offer an out standing alternative for developing youth hockey players. In the 2010-2011 season alone, the Renegades have twelve alumni playing at the Tier I (AAA) Level playing in the State of Colorado and one playing college hockey.

The fifth CAHA State Championship Banner. Next stop Nationals!
For the 2010-2011 season, the Mountain States Renegades have chosen to play as an independent organization once again. The Renegades look to continue the success from the 2009-2010 season in which we had our first team advance to Nationals. The Bantam AA team won our fifth state title and advanced to Nationals. The Renegades will continue to play at the Tier I/AA level as sanctioned by USA Hockey and CAHA as well as at other skill appropriate levels. We will continue to develop a hockey experience that is like no other in the Rocky Mountain Region. Our organization generally operates our youth hockey program from September/October through March/April. The Select teams run by Tim Knox and Roger Gill usually play some tournaments from April through July.
